Sharpened Word - September 2019

First we hosted the movie makers at PORT, then the comedians came and now we are welcoming a spoken word poet to Ipoh. Indeed a busy two months for SW!

So for September and in conjunction with Malaysia Day, SW is organising a Spoken Word Poetry crash course with Sheena Baharudin at the helm. Well, Sheena certainly needs no further introduction in Klang Valley as a poet-educator, writer and also a radio host of Spoken Word “Speak Easy” program on BFM.

We had a successful writing crash course from Dr. Chuah Guat Eng a couple of months back so these writing workshop was back based on popular demand.

Unlike a conventional poet, Spoken Word Poetry is written on a page/ or hand phone, but performed to an audience. It relies on heavy use of rhythm, improvisation rhymes, wordplay and slang. This contemporary poet is driven by a younger crowd, who write their poetry with the aim of performing it.

As 22 Hale Street has been booked for another event, we are holding this workshop at 19, Jalan Tun Sambanthan, just beside Ipoh Padang, which is also not far from our usual spot. So please do take note of the change of venue and we apologise in advanced for the inconvenience caused.

To make this workshop more effective, participants are encouraged to bring along a draft or basic outline of a poem to work on. Don’t forget to bring paper and pen too.

You can get her books during the session and an autograph too.

Hope to see you guys!
