Sharpened Word - September 2020

Over the years, the theme for our September events has always been patriotic and we have been consistently getting national icons to be with us over the years, from Dato Lat, Hassan Muthalib to Pete Teo, where they shared with us their vision of Malaysia with the crowd.

It is also the time where we celebrate our anniversary and this year it will be the fourth year running for SW!

Well, this time around we have managed to bring to the community a very interesting duo. It will also be their first time to share the stage together. Both of our guests are prolific writers and speakers promoting a part of the culture that is deeply Malaysian.

And we are proud to bring Dr. Lee Su Kim and Ninotaziz to Ipoh this month!

Su Kim needs no further introduction as she is a well known figure amongst the local community. A Peranakan by birth, she has written extensively about her roots and culture.

As a TEDx speaker, Su Kim does not just read out her stories but she tells the stories to her crowd. In fact, Su Kim was with SW a couple of years back and her video remains one of the highest viewed in our Youtube channel.

For this coming event, she will be presenting her stories in a very unique manner and we are all very excited and look forward to her session.

Our second guest, the award winner Ninotaziz is the descendant from the family of storyteller and not surprisingly, she ends up writing about the legend stories of ancient times of her mother land.

She was born in Tasmania, Australia but grew up in rural Temerloh and was subsequently encouraged by her Chinese teacher during her teens to write about stories of the legends. Already, this should said something about her uniqueness and indeed, her Hikayat book series were beautifully crafted and we could not put it down until the last page. A must have in the book shelf of avid readers.

We will be posting a more detailed CV of our guests in the coming weeks, so watch this space.

As usual, there will be a book signing session at the end and both the guests will be bringing some of their books for sale. You can bring your copies for autograph as well. In fact, most of their books are sold out and not available from book stores nowadays so it is a good opportunity to pick up copies directly from the writers themselves.

Looking forward to seeing you this month!
