About The Event

If February was an alpha-male event for SW, then March will be the exact opposite.

Well, March also coincides with International Women’s Day and so the team is proud to collaborate with Perak’s Women for Women Society (PWW) to bring in two prominent female writers to the community.

PWW, together with Soroptimist International, has started A Million Star To End Violence Project two years back with the aim to educate and raise public awareness on domestic violence, bullying and racism. By end of last year, and together with UiTM Seri Iskandar, PWW has set up A Million Star Gallery at PWW office and fittingly, we will be holding our Mar event there.

We are proud to have Saras Manickam who was the recipient for DK Dutt Memorial Award for Literary Excellence back in 2017. Last year her short story entitled “My Mother Pattu” won the fiercely competitive Commonwealth Short Story Contest for the Asia region. She is currently working on compiling her series of short stories for publication.

Then we have the Philippine-borne Michelle Ayon Navajas who is currently residing in Malaysia. Michelle authored the book “ After – Rain Skies: A Million Stars” for PWW during their Million Star campaign.

Graduated with a Master of Education major in English in Philippines, Michelle was a former college professor, teaching literature, speech and oral communication, creative writing, drama and theatre arts.

Both Saras and Michelle remains active in their writing profession and work as freelance creative writers.

Michelle passionately blogs at www.michnavs.wordpress.com, where you can find her prose and poetry on love, life, motherhood and her advocacy on abuse and violence.

PWW Gallery is located at 15A Market Street, upstairs of PWW shop and just a few blocks away from 22 Hale Street where SW holds its monthly event.

As usual, we have various books available for sale from our previous guests though in limited quantities. Most of these books are not available in major bookstores and so please come and grab it while stock last.

Hope to see you guys!
