Gabriel Lee, Violin (Singapore)
Gabriel graduated with a BMus (Hons) from the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music. During his time at the conservatory, he had also worked as a music history teaching assistant.
Gabriel won the Gold Award at the 6th Asian Youth Music Competition, and has appeared in numerous concerts at home and abroad, including a solo appearance with the Braddell Heights Symphony Orchestra. He has freelanced professionally with the Guiyang Symphony Orchestra and the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, and has served as a violin mentor for the Singapore National Youth Orchestra.
Gabriel's teachers include Victor Danchenko, Ng Yu-Ying, Alexander Souptel, Chan Yoong Han and Zhang Zhen Shan. In Fall 2015, he will begin his MMus studies at the Peabody Conservatory with Victor Danchenko, supported by a full scholarship from YSTCM.
Gabriel is a member of the Singaporean instrumental band, the Lorong Boys. He plays on an 1837 Aldric on loan from the Rin Collection.
Christina Zhou, Violin (Singapore)
Christina Zhou graduated with distinction from the Eastman School of Music, USA at the age of 21 and studied under the late Zvi Zeitlin. She also completed her Graduate Diploma under Zuo Jun, at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory in Singapore. She won 3rd prize in the 2001 National Violin Competition in Singapore and First prize in the Bruch Concerto Competition at Eastman.
She has attended prestigious music festivals such as the Bowdoin International Music Festival, awarded full scholarships for Music Academy of the West and Texas Music Festival in the USA. Christina has a vast experience in chamber and orchestral playing, working with world renowned conductors and musicians both in the States and in Singapore.
Christina is currently a dedicated teacher and freelance violinist in Singapore, playing in the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra and many more. She is a founding member of the classical string quartet, Sophron. She is also part of the educative-jazzy Y String Quartet and the fusion ensemble of Tze n the Looking Glass. Most recently, she gave her solo debut with the ADDO Chamber Orchestra in Singapore, performing the Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor. Christina plays on an 1854 Antonio Gagliano violin from the Rin Family Collection.
Lim Jae Sern, Violin (Malaysia)
Lim was the youngest soloist performer in a Penang State Symphony Orchestra and Chorus concert. His engagement includes the National Symphony, RTM Orchestra, Anugerah Industri Muzik, Anugerah Juara Lagu, Anugerah ERA, One In A Million, Akademi Fantasia. Lim has toured with Co-Opera to Australia and Europe and worked with the Orchestra Internazionale D'Italia and West Side Story.
His other orchestral experiences include the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Asian Youth Orchestra, Beaux Arts Trio, Gil Shaham, Cecile Licad, Hakan Hardenberger and Leila Josefowicz. He stayed with the Canton International Summer Music Academy and worked with the late Janos Furst, Charles Dutoit, Martha Argerich, Akiko Suwanai and Renaud Capucon.
Lim has recorded for Siti Nurhaliza, Kris Dayanti, Ning Baizura, Faizal Tahir, Tomok, Aizat Amdan and performed live solos for Jaclyn Victor, Siti Nurhaliza, Khatijah Ibrahim, Zainal Abidin, Nicholas Teo, Penny Tai and Faizal Tahir.
A Night of Musical Kaleidoscope
From Bach to Yiruma! This year ensemble will be music from Vivaldi’s all time favourite, The Four Seasons violin concerto; Bach’s famous Air on G String & Brandenburg Concerto; the heart-warming Yiruma’s River Flows Into You; the exotic Bizet’s Carmen Fantasy and many more!
We will also feature the super clarinet soloist Mr. Andrew Simon, well-known for his flawless fingers-flying techniques and beautiful tone that will give you all an unforgettable musical journey!
The ensemble will also extend its mission on intensive education and outreach programs benefiting local community and younger generation, such as “Meet the Musicians” sessions and workshops involving students from various schools – to provide harmony for ALL.
