Sharpened Word - August 2019

August in Ipoh is indeed an eventful month with plentiful of interesting activities on offer for both locals and visitors. In the spirit of Merdeka (independence), SW is now taking the opportunity to collaborate with PORT to offer a film screening and meet-the-director session at their premise.

As usual, we have lined up a list of distinguished guests for August. We have Dr. Razli Dalan, a UK-based specialist who is also an established movie director and despite his busy schedule, has promised to make a stop-over in Ipoh to discuss about his work and his aspirations.

Then we have the Penang-based Al Jafree Md Yusop, a name that needs no further introduction in the local movie scene. A multi-award winner and a fast-witted creative writer, Al Jafree is an advocate for the development of local film and the welfare of the industry players.

We also have James Lee, the local Ipoh boy who is the forefathers who spearheaded the development of indie digital video film-making and his works has seen him winning international accolades over the years. Not surprisingly, he has a huge following internationally.

Lastly, we have the honour of Hassan Muthalib a.k.a. Pak Hassan to grace our event too. The Merdeka Award recipient is a familiar face in SW and has appeared in all our movie and film related sessions. Needless to say, Pak Hassan is a highly respected figure in the industry and the audience will never go back “empty-minded” after his discourse.

For our Aug event, it will be spread out over two days i.e. from 23rd to 24th Aug at PORT. We will have two film screening and dialogue sessions on Friday, 23rd Aug. For 24th Aug, we have a morning screening and dialogue session, followed by our group panel discussion in the afternoon. Detailed programs are as follows:

23rd August 2019 (Friday)

5.30pm – 7.15pm Screening of James Lee’s “Tolong! Awek Aku Pontianak”

7.15pm – 7.45pm Dialogue with Director – James Lee

8.45pm – 10.00pm Screening of Dr. Razli Dalan’s “Haruan”

10.00pm – 10.30pm Dialogue with Director – Dr. Razli Dalan

24th August 2019 (Saturday)

10.30am – 12.15pm Screening of Al Jafree Md Yusop’s “Melur vs Rajawali”

12.15pm – 12.45pm Dialogue with Director – Al Jafree Md Yusop

2.30pm – 5.00pm Panel Discussion
