Sharpened Word - August 2020
We are back!
It has been a long while since we held our monthly talk but the stop was inevitable due to the prolonged Covid-19 pandemic. Needless to say, it has since created a new norm to all our lives and so our meeting will have to follow it too.
To kick start our session, the team is honoured to present Dato’s Kamil Othman, who is the ex-DG for FINAS talk about the topic that is close to his heart, that is the state of affairs of the country’s movie industry.
A quick bio of Dato’ Kamil Othman:
An avid film buff, Dato’ Kamil was with Shell Malaysia before joining the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDEC) as VP for the Creative Multimedia Division in 1999. At MDEC, his team literally kick-started the Malaysian Digital Animation industry. In 2014, he became the Director General for the National Film Development Corporation (FINAS) and it was during his tenure that Malaysian cinema began to make inroads onto the international scene. Kamil was also the VP for the Asian Film Commissioners Network (AFCNET), a position he held until 2019. He is still a member of the Tokyo-based Asian Content Business Summit (ACBS).
Please take note that the event this month will be held at Tin Alley instead of the usual 22 Hale Street from 2.30 to 5pm. We will work closely with the venue organiser to ensure all SOPs are adhered to. So, we hope for your close cooperation and understand that these procedures are for the convenience of all.
