Happy New Year! We hope the year 2019 will continue to bring good omen and prosperity to all our friends and acquittance.
SW had an eventful 2018 where we managed to host a wide variety of talks and forums for our audience in Ipoh, topics ranging from books, music, art, movies and even social topics and we aim to continue with such a wide-ranging topic for the community.
For the upcoming event in January, we are proud to bring Dato' Dr. M. Shanmugalingam to Ipoh and talk about his book "Marriage and Mutton Curry", which was launched late last year.
Dato's knack on literary writing started way back and he came second in an Oxford short story competition in 1977 while undertaking his doctorate studies in England. His academic excellence has enabled him to study at Universiti Malaya (then), crossing the Pacific to Harvard for his master degree and finally his doctorate in Oxford.
Such distinguished academic achievements will no doubt see him going places in his career path, from serving with the Ministry of Finance in his early days before moving on to the private sector. He has worked in Petronas and sat on board of various public listed companies - Mamee, PBA, EON, Delloyd Ventures - and financial institutions - MIMB, CIMB (Labuan), Aberdeen Asset Management - just to name a few.
In addition, Dato' is also an interviewer and commentator on international and current affairs. He also reviewed movies on radio and television channels. His literary inclination has also led him to be a member of the advisory panels in Dewan Bahasa and TV3 Bhd.
Dato's is currently the Managing Director of Trilogic Sdn Bhd, specialising in investments and consultancy services, besides sitting on board of the Malaysian Institute of Economic Research (MIER), the Asian Strategy and Leadership Institute (ASLI) and the Board of Trustees.
Frankly, this short bio write up does not do justice to his achievements over the years and so this is an opportunity not to be missed to meet Dato' in person, a man of such brilliance and listening to him sharing his knowledge and wisdom.
Just a point of interest, the foreword of the book "Marriage and Mutton Curry" was penned by His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin Shah, the Sultan of Perak and he even went on to launch the book for Dato'. Surely this must be a book not to be missed by book lovers.
