Sharpened Word - May 2018
May is coming!
For those who were with us two weeks ago, we promised to showcase Alena Murang, a young but prominent artist with Borneo-Kelabit bloodline and introduce culture, music and arts from Sarawak. Unfortunately, the longhouse that Alena's ancestor was living on in Ulu Beram was burnt down and all the youngsters volunteered and went back for reconstruction work. Similarly, for Alena, she has to postponed all her April and May appointments to be with her family during this difficult period. Our hearts and sympathies go to her, her family and her tribe and wish them well in their rebuilding effort. SW will continue to make effort to bring her to Ipoh when she is available again.
Despite the setback, we managed to churn out a new program for next month. In view of the coming fasting period, we thought screening of the late Yasmin Ahmad's movie will be timely as she was a strong advocate for religion and spirituality harmonisation. So, we will be showing Yasmin's "Gubra" and then Pak Hassan will narrate and review the movie after the show.
