“The Nutcracker” by Elysian Ensemble

Tenby Schools Ipoh Parents Association proudly presents "The Nutcracker" concert by Elysian Ensemble, fully sponsored by Wei Dat Steel Wire Sdn Bhd. This concert will feature highlights from The Nutcracker, Op.71 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, with narration and slides to present the story.

The Nutcracker, Op.71 is a two-act ballet, originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov with a score by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The libretto is adapted from E. T. A. Hoffmann’s story “The Nutcracker and the Mouse King”, by way of Alexandre Dumas’ adapted story “The Story of a Nutcracker”. It was given its premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg on Sunday 18 December 1892.

Tchaikovsky’s score has become one of his most famous compositions, in particular the pieces featured in the 20-minute suite which he extracted from the ballet. The pieces for the concert tonight are arranged by the members of the Elysian Ensemble, Ong Yong Hang and Chee Hui Hui.
